Karvattomuusasteet

Don Sphynxillä on neljä eri karvattomuus-astetta, täysin karvattomasta, karvalliseen(brush), joka on melkein kuin normaalin kissan turkki.

• Naked/Naku:Täysin karvaton kissa, myös kutsutaan kumikissaksi. Niiden iho on pehmeä, lämmin ja hieman tahmea kosketukselle. Karvattomat pennut syntyvät yleensä silmät auki, ilman viiksiä ja kulmakarvoja.
• Flock-kissan karva on erittäin lyhyttä, alle 2mm:stä pehmeää nukkaa. Koskiessasi ihoa huomaat, ettei se ole nihkeä, vaan jotakin pehmeämpää. Jotkut kasvattajat jakavat Flockin kahteen tyyppiin, normaali flock ja erittäin ohut flock, jolla on todella pieni ero karvattomasta, kumimaisesta ihosta.

Flock-kissalla voi olla myös pidempää karvaa, kuten Velourilla ja Brushilla. Yleensä tätä esiintyy erityisesti hännässä.

• Velour-turkki on 1-3mm pitkä. Velour on pehmeä ja samettinen, rex-tyyppinen karva, jota et Flockkia kosketteassa tunne.
• Brush/harjaturkki on koko vartalon peittävä turkki. Karvat ovat pidempiä kuin Velourilla. Karva on kuin pehmeää villaa. Brush-kissat eivät voi saada sertejä näyttelyissä. Ne ovat vain kasvatukseen ja siis myös lemmikiksi.

On myös välimuotoja näille asteille. Joskus kissa voi "Brush-point", sillä on brushtyyppiset, karvaiset jalat ja häntä ja muu vartalo Velouria tai jopa Flock. Joskus voi olla vaikea päätellä mikä karvattomuusaste on kyseessä. Silloin kannattaa tutkia kissan jalkoja(ei häntää, koska siellä muutenkin pidempi karva) ja tehdä päätelmä siitä.

• Naked:Completely hairless cats(also called "gummy cats"). Their skin is soft, warm and almost sticky to the touch. The kittens are usually born with open eyes and without whiskers and eyebrows.

   

• Flock: Flocked hair is short;fine down made of sparse rather little hairs. When you touch it, you will note that it isn't "gummy", it's somewhat other, smoother sensation.  Some breeders like to differentiate two subtypes of flock, usual flock and extra-short flock, that is one little step from "gummy skin.

Even flocked cats may have longer type of hair (velour or brush) on some areas of the body. Usually it's points and tail.

• Velour: type of hair is made of 1-3mm hairs, closely put one to one. Usually you can see those hairs from middle distance and when you touch a cat, it's still somewhat smooth sensation, though hand get some resistance when you move it over skin, you sense some short hair(which you don't with flock).
• Brush/harjaturkki:These are curly hairs, longer than velour. when you touch brush hair, it's absolutely unlikely to anything naked; it's just a soft wool or hard kinky hair, short or lengthy. Brush cats can have curly whiskers.

Sometimes a cat can be "brush-point", she has brush kind of hair on legs and tail and velour(or even flocked) on other parts of body. Main thing is, there are no just four strictly defined groups of hairs, those groups are somewhat diffusive, you can't always tell if it's flock of velour, if it's extra-short or usual and so on. And a final note, when you're not sure what kind of hair your cat is, check a legs(not tail) and decide upon its analysis.
