Don Sphynx rotuna

Don Sphynx on alustavasti hyväksytty rotu 1.1.2007 lähtien ja toivotettiin tervetulleeksi III kategoriaan. Alustava hyväksyminen tarkoittaa, että rotua voi toistaiseksi näyttelyttää FIFessä vain näytteluokissa 7-12 ja sertejä voi saada luokista7-10(kuten normaalistikin). Alustavasti hyväksytyt rodut, kuten Peterbald ja Don Sphynx saavat titteleikseen PCH, PPR, PIC, PIP. Jokaisen tittelin edessä oleva P tarkoittaa Preliminary, eli alustava. Rodun saavuttaessa täyden hyväksynnän P otetaan tittelistä pois.

Luonne

Don Sphynx on erittäin älykäs ja uskollinen perheelleen. Sanotaan, "Donit eivät ole ihmisiä, mutta eivät myöskään kissoja". Ne ovat viisaita, erittäin eläviä ja käyttäytyvät pikemminkin lapsellisesti kuin kissamaisesti. Niillä on erittäin ilmeikäs, melkeimpä lumoava katse. Ne ovat aina iloisia ja rakastavat ihmisen läheisyyttä.

Koko ja ulkomuoto

Don Sphynx on vartaloltaan keskipitkä ja vankka. Se omaa voimakkaat lihakset ja leveän takamuksen. Takajalat ovat hieman etujalkoja pidemmät ja sillä on pitkät kapeat "apinamaiset" varpaat. Pää on keskikokoinen, sillä on hieman ulkonevat poskiluut ja voimakas, hyvin kehittynyt leuka. Nenä on keskisuora, jossa on näkyvä painauma. Silmät ovat syvällä, ne ovat kauniit, keskikokoiset ja mantelin muotoiset. Isot korvat, jotka leveät tyvestä, kallistuvat hieman eteenpäin. Iho on täysin karvaton, joustava ja ryppyinen, joita varsinkin päässä, niskassa ja kainaloissa. Kaikki värit ovat sallittuja rotumääritelmässä.

Don Sphynx verrattuna Kandan sfinxiin:

Molemmat ovat karvattomia, mutta eri geneettisestä syystä. Don Sphynxin geeni on dominoiva, kun taas Kandan sfinxin karvattomuus perustuu resessiiviseen geeniin. Toisin sanoen Don Sphynx on täysin luonnollinen mutaatio. Ne myös näyttävät erilaisilta. Kanadan sfinxin turkki tuntuu kuin lämpimältä persikalta, Don Sphynxillä voi olla 4 eri karvallisuusastetta, nihkeästä täysin karvattomasta harjaturkkiin(brush).

Temperament

Don Sphynxs are highly intelligent and loyal to the owner. They say about Sphynxs, " They are not human beings yet, but they are not already cats." They are smart, waggish, very lively and behave themselves rather like children not like cats. They have a very expressive, nearly bewitching look, are always happy and love the human company. Thay are very easy to raise, are not choosy with the food and make excellent companions.

Size and General appearance

The Don Sphynx body is of medium lenght, compact, sturdy muscular, with a broad rump, witwide croup and a deep scrotum line. The legs are medium-long, straight with rounded paws and elongated toes with webs that allow the animal to seize things with the toes. The head, set on a medium in lenght, rounded and well-muscled neck, is short to medium long, with finely outlined cheekbones, a well-developed chin and a straight, medium lenght nose with a slight break. The forehead is flat, with many vertical wrinkles spreading in horizontal lines above the eyes. The eye-balls are marked. The medium-sized, almond-shaped eyes are deep and set up slantwise. There is no relationship between eye colour and coat colour. The ears are large, set wide and high on the head, slightly bent forward, wide at the base with rounded tips. The tail is long, straight, strong and flexible and tapering to the tip. The skin is completely naked, elastic and very muzzle may be covered with short, thin fur, slightly longer on cheeks and the ears base, "ear muff". All colour are allowed by the breed standard.

Don Sphynx compared to Canadan Sphynx:

They are both hairless, but for different genetic reasons. The gene that makes the Don Sphynx hairless is a dominant gene, whereas the gene that makes the Sphynx bald is recessive gene. They have a completely different look too. Don Sphynx differs from Canadian Sphynx by heavier bones. Sphynx feel like warm peaches or chamois, Don Spynxs can have a variety of coats from sticky bald to a brush coat.
