Don Sphynx historia
1987 Elena Kovaleva löysi Rostov-on-Don kadulta noin 3-4kk ikäisen normaalin pörröisen kilpikonna-värisen kissan. Kissa nimettiin Varvaraksi. Kissan ollessa noin 7kk ikäinen, alkoi karvanlähto, ensin päästä ja sitten niskasta. Eläinlääkärit eivät kuitenkaan löytäneet kissasta mitään vikaa. Varvara astutettiin kissalla nimeltä Vasily. Vasily oli sinitabbyvalkoinen kotikissa. Seurauksena syntyi Chita niminen pentu, jonka Irina Nemykina Myth-kissalasta otti itselleen ja alkoi kasvattaa uutta karvatonta rotua nimeltä Don Sphynx. Chita astutettiin omalla pennullaan Hannibalilla. Chita, Hannibal ja pennut olivat ensimmäistä kertaa esillä jo vuonna 1993, mutta rotu rekisteröitiin vasta vuonna 1998.

History of Don Sphynx
In 1987 Elena Kovaleva found a half-naked cat in the streets of Rostov-na-Donu. After a visit to the vet, the cat was found to be absolutely healthy and was named Varvaroy. It was the first Don Sphynx cat. Out of the mating with a common cat named Vasily was born a kitten named Chita. Irina Nemykina took this kitty and started a breeding program for this new naked breed. There was not any cat club in Rostov-on-don in those days, so Irina kept her studbooks herself. Of cource, there were far from precice, yet very helpful from a genetic standpoint. According to these documents it was determinated that the new gene for hairlessness is dominant to the gene fo normal coat. This was evident, becouse when heterozygous hairless cats were mated to normal coated cats, a number of hairless kittens always resulted in the litter. The first Don Sphynx kittens were born in Myth Cattery(owned by Irina Nemykina) out of Chita and Hannibal(mother and son). For the first time Chita, Hannibal and their kittens were shown at an exhibition in 1993, but the breed was officially recognized only in 1998. - 1987 "Discovery" of female hairless cat(Varya) in Russia, Rostov-on-Don by a cat breeder.
- 1989 Varya bred to a mixed cat resulting in several hairless kittens, one of which, a black female, was breed to European Shorthairs and Domestic Shorthairs creating the foundation cats of the Don Sphynx breed.
1994 Mating a Don Sphynx with a Siamese/Oriental resulting in another breed, the Peterbald. 1997 Recognised by the World Cat Federation(WCF) and TICA. 2005 Crossed with Scottish Fold to produce Levkoy cat. Conformation is more rounded than a Don Sphynx and ears are less folded than the Scottish Fold. 2007 Don Sphynx is not recognised by CFA or GCCF. Preliminary recognised breed in FIFE. 21.4.2008 Chita, the ascentandt of Don Sphynx, passed away of age 18. Sorry for your lost Irina Nemikina from cattery MIF.
